Question:

Wouldn't it make sense for the driver's seat to be on the right side?

Most of collisions occur when a car crosses over the yellow line and both of the drivers hit head on. If the seat was on the right side, the driver would be farther away from oncoming traffic and would have a better view of the curb when parking or turning. There are probably many other perks as well...

  1. so lets see now you think it is more important to be able to see the curb than the side of the car coming toward you.

  2. 1. What about the passenger, if the crash is anyone's fault, it would be the driver's.

    2. Being on the offside of the car (left in US, right in UK), puts the driver in a far better position to avoid the crash to start with as they have a far better view of the road.

  3. WTF are you from the other side of the backward world.  if you notice they do the same thing we do except for that little thing of a drivers seat and setup.  Its a no win situation for the driver.  drivers that can't stay in their lane shouldn't be on the road.

  4. I think the majority of accidents are rear-end collisions and it wouldn't make any difference which side of the car the driver's seat was on. Second are accidents occuring when one car broadsides another, such as running a red light. I think cars have been around for over 100 years and they have pretty much figured out which is the proper side for the driver to sit.

  5. The driver would be further away from oncoming traffic but what about his passenger??

Now the yellow line is harder for the driver to see............

  6. I think so.  But the thinking goes that people don't always know where the "far" end of the cars are.  So if 2 people passes going in opposite direction with all that car between them then (a) there will be more accidents (b) but each accident will be less likely be as fatal.

Think about getting into corner clipper once ever few months, verse none for years.

    Pick your poison.

    Good Luck.
