Wouldn't say boo to a 'goose' or 'ghost'?

My friend and I have this constant battle as to which one is correct. My friend believes that the phrase is 'he wouldn't say boo to a ghost', and I keep telling him that it's in fact 'he wouldn't say boo to a goose'. Please can someone put this to rest. Thanks
