She has won several titles in 2008 and was in the French Open Finals. She has shown amazing form. Do you think she is a potential #1? What will her ranking be at the end of 2008? Do you think she can win the U.S. Open or any slams? By the way, she is 8 in the world right now.

  1. If she keeps up her form and keeps playing the way she has been playing, there is no doubt in my mind she will be the next #1. She is the only player who has had great results on all 3 surfaces this year. She won the German Open and made it to the finals of the French Open (both clay court), she made it to the final of the Ordina Open (grass) where she lost to Tamarine Tanasugarn who had a good run at wimbledon, and right now Safina is on a 2 tournament win streak on the hardcourts.

And Kole, what the h**l are you talking about? She just beat Jankovic last week, pretty easily too.

  2. She's a very good player, she's been playing awesome tennis this past few weeks. I don't know if she'll be number One one day but if she can handle her nerves, she'll definitly can accomplish great things

  3. she might be future no , 1 , but i dont think she has game for it

  4. maybe.. maybe not.. as long as my fave -jankovic- and ivanovic are out there i doubt that she'll be #1, but who knows, right? i'm betting she'll end the season ranked in the top5 if she continues playing like this! as for winning a slam i don't think so just yet, maybe next year.

  5. she's definitely capable

  6. Yes she definitely has the capability and the state of women's tennis now only makes it easier for her to rise to the top as long as she's playing the way she is now. The biggest improvement is not her play but her emotions and the way she handles her frustration and disappointment. She has figured how to keep that side of her under control and not affect her play as much, unlike her brother...

  7. I know that is so true

  8. i hope so!!!

i really want her to be number one, she plays amazing tennis and seems to be a really nice girl.

besides her brother is hot, haha.-

  9. Well it's there for the taking for whomever can really take the chance. Safina is very good and having a brilliant year. I have said on here before I don't think it is far off before she wins her first Grand Slam.

Womens tennis is mediocre at the moment and needs someone to take it by the scruf of the neck. Safina in any other age wouldn't be a no.1 but right now there is every chance it could happen.

Personally, I'd like to see Kuznetsova step up to the mark. She has everything in her game but just needs to sort her head out.

I think I make Safina my outsider for the US. There is no clear favourite for me but I agree with you. Safina has just as good a chance as anyone else.

  10. I agree, she is a very good player, shes my personal hope for the WTA. People who say she won't beat Ivanovic or Jankovic havent seen any results recently- if Paszeck and Juang can beat them I'm pretty sure Safina can. But you know, its called form and shes hitting it, we just hope that she stays this good for longer! Esp whilst the other top players can't win a tounry! Would love to see her win US Open!

  11. I like watching tennis and am a big fan. do you really think she could beat somebody like Ivanovic or Jankovic who had beat her bad in every match that they played against each other? I don't know she might... but the odds of it are pretty low.
