Well she did it again. Pretended to be injured to pullout of a match and not risk loosing after she saw Venus get beat.

Serena Williams’ back froze suddenly while she was warming up on a practice court for her match with French qualifier Alize Cornet. The 18-year-old Cornet—last year’s French Open junior champion—is having a breakout season. She reached the semifinals of two clay-court events in the United States last month, and was runner-up to Flavia Pennetta at a small clay-court tournament in Acapulco, Mexico, in March.

“I’m happy, but it’s not the same satisfaction when you win a real match,” Cornet said. “I was excited to play against Serena.” Well Serena was not very excited to play a Hot Jr.Champ and risk loosing so she faked another injury or pulled a Djokovic. When Djoko does it it's called pulling a Serena

“It just happened all of a sudden in practice,” Williams said before heading to a hospital for tests. “I just went for a shot and then my back got a little stuck.

  1. I'm sure she pulled out because she's afraid of losing to a qualifier LOL

  2. To answer your question, she only does it when she needs to because she has a grandslam tournament coming up so it would've been stupid for her to risk further injuring herself and making it hard for her to be in full health at the french open. I doubt if Serena was afraid of Cornet, because she's played her before and she won and Serena isn't afraid to face anyone. But if your going to say this about Serena towards Cornet, then say the same about Sharapova towards Jankovic. Sharapova quite frankly after even losing a match she says she was injured so to make her opponent look like they didn't really beat her. Serena has been playing allot of tennis this year so her body is getting tired, so she needed rest, she didn't do anything wrong in my eyes. If you play tennis, small things can become bigger problems, because of the level of physicality in tennis, so she was smart in pulling out of the match and not risking hurting herself. I doubt if it had anything to do with her Venus.

  3. In the ATP, Djokovic got a lot of criticisms for quitting in the second set. Now we have a pullout at the WTA. I dunno if these add to the excitement or if these are deliberately done to evade losses from good players

  4. She's probably just saving herself for the French Open.  You know the grand slam tourney that starts in a couple of weeks and has way more points than the Italian Open.

I don't think there's a grand conspiracy here.  If you're going to go down on an injury, you may as well do it at a grand slam event.

  5. Actually, I think she withdrew before Venus lost to Jankovic.  I think Serena was hoping Venus would go on to win the title if she withdrew, but she didn't expect Jankovic to ruin their conspiracy.

  6. hey terminator, you can have that exact same theory for maria....she too just withdrew from her semi against jelena. she knew she didn't stand a chance against JJ on clay especially the way she played this week.
