Wow internet modem!!!!?

i recently switched to wow and got a new modem its good and everything is working fine. they gave me an extra ethernet cable and some usb thing you plug into the back of the modem its like a usb can someone please tell me what that little usb thing does??

Many cable modems include an option to use a CAT5 or USB connection to your PC or router.  You only need to use one, not both.  If I remember correctly, the CAT5 was rated as being faster than the USB for the modem I had before switching to Verizon FiOS.

It's typically to configure the modem.

You get a CD with utility - you hook it up to your machine via USB

Typically you don't use it as you can access the modem through http page.

Most likely it is another option that is available to connect your modem to your computer.  Check in your owners manual for the modem to find detailed steps for using the USB connection.

The FAQ page at Wowway.com (link below) shows either an ethernet or USB connection.
