a^2 + b^2 = x^2

> 68^2 + 6^2 = x^2

> 4624 + 36 = x^2

> 4660 = x^2

> x = about 68.264

Unless x is the third side. And a and b are the other 2 sides that are at right angles to each other. Then just use the Pythagorean theorem. a squared plus b squared equals c squared (or x squared if it is as I said to begin with.)

Thus take the square root of (a squared plus b squared) to get your answer.

If you're not talking about the sides of a right triangle, then you need to give more info before an answer can be given to you. Sorry.
