1. A two-person tent is to be made so that the height at the center is a = 4 feet (see the figure below). If the sides of the tent are to meet the ground at an angle α = 60°, and the tent is to be b = 10 feet in length, how many square feet of material will be needed to make the tent? (Assume that the tent has a floor and is closed at both ends, and give your answer in exact form.)

2. The length of each edge of the cube shown in figure is 9 inch.

  1. no figure is given

  2. 1) Diagram is helpful, but not needed for this one

    Base of the tent is (4 / sqrt 3 ) * 2 = 8 / sqrt 3 = (8*sqrt 3) / 3

    Three rectangles + 2 triangles = surface area

    Rectangle = (8*sqrt 3) / 3   *   10 = (80*sqrt 3) / 3

    3 rectangles = 80*sqrt 3

    triangle = (16 * sqrt 3) / 3

    2 triangles = (32 * sqrt 3) / 3

    Total surface area = (272 * sqrt 3) / 3

    2) We need a diagram to show where the vertices are.

    I can tell you this though...

    Any diagonal on the face of the cube is 9*sqrt 2

    The space diagonal of the cube is 9*sqrt 3

  3. i think your first answer is going to be 20 square feet
