Wozniacki and Clijsters qualify for the last four stages of Qatar ExxonMobil Open
The current world number one tennis sensation from Denmark, Caroline Wozniacki has successfully beaten her Italian rival Francesca Schiavone and has qualified for the semi-finals of the Women Tennis Association Champions tennis
tournament, which is being held in Doha, Qatar. By winning the match, she has successfully ceased the top spot of the tennis ranking until the end of this year’s tennis season.
The recent match of the twenty-year-old Dane was not an easy match at all, as the thirty-year-old and current world number six, Schiavone gave her a very strong challenge. The victory has given Wozniacki a boost for the further
stages of the tournament. It was important for Wozniacki to win her final maroon round match to stay in the competition and to keep the world number one title with her, as her archrival Vera Zvonareva is on the verge of clutching the title from her.
The match between the Italian ace Francesca Schiavone and Caroline Wozniacki was a real stamina throbbing battle of three sets. The first set of the match was successfully snatched by Schiavone as she displayed the best of her
playing capabilities. Later, the Dane recovered very well and totally outclassed her rival by exhibiting strong control over her racquet. Finally, the Danish ace Wozniacki clinched the deserving victory by 3-6, 6-1 and 6-1.
After the match, Wozniacki said to the media that the current season has been great for her and she is happy with the way everything has gone. She added that she has not won a Grand Slam yet, but she can definitely say that she
has done a tremendous job this year and being the world number one is like a dream come true.
On the other hand, the twenty-seven year old Belgian tennis ace, Kim Clijsters showed her talent by qualifying for the last four stages of the tournament. Clijsters was not able to display her best because she is still going through
the recovery process of her foot surgery, but did perfectly well to beat her Belarusian rival Victoria Azarenka.
The twenty-one year old tennis ace from Belarus, Azarenka played brilliantly and made the Belgian suffer during the match. After being down in the first set of the match, Azarenka recovered well in the second set and successfully
grasped the second set victory from Clijsters, but the day seemed to be not so lucky for the current world number ten. The victory in the match has led her to face the Russian Vera Zvonareva in the last match of the white group.
After a long absence from the tennis court, this was the second match of Clijsters. It is worth mentioning that the ongoing WTA Champions tennis event in Doha is Clijsters’ first tournament after the US Grand Slam, which was held
in New York in August. Her qualification for the top four stages of the tournament is a strong proof of her dedication and hard work and the victory against Azarenka has definitely given her a very strong motivation for the bigger matches ahead.
After the match, the Belgian expressed her thoughts and emotions in a relaxed way and told the media that she is a little disappointed because she lost the second set of the match. She added that her foot is still recovering and
that is probably why she has not been able to perform according to her will.
The twenty-seven year old later added that Azarenka played really well, but she got slightly out of touch in the third set and gave a window of opportunity to her to make a comeback in the match.
