Wozniacki to open against Santonja; Na Li to play
Kudryavtseva – Wimbledon Championships 2011
Caroline Wozniacki and Na Li take to the courts at the Wimbledon Championships 2011 this week as they open their Grand Slam campaign at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in Wimbledon, London, England.
Caroline Wozniacki will begin her much-anticipated 2011 Wimbledon campaign, as she takes to the court late Monday afternoon. The first seed is set to take on Arantxa Parra Santonja of Spain in the opening round of the tournament.
Wozniacki and Santonja will be going head-to-head for the first time in their careers when they clash in the first round of Wimbledon Championships on Monday. The 20-year-old Dane does not want anything to stop her momentum right
now. The World No.1 is 45/8 at the WTA level this season mainly thanks to her five titles which she won at Dubai, Indian Wells, Charleston, Brussels and Copenhagen respectively.
104 spots behind Wozniacki is Santonja, struggling in 2011 and has bounced in between WTA events and Challengers. The 28-year-old Santonja advanced one round at French open before getting blown out by Bethanie Mattek-Sands of America.
Wozniacki and Santonja are all-court players who can get the job done on grass when they put in a high percentage of first serves. However, imagine what often goes under the sun and expect Wozniacki to get into the second round
with straight sets.
In another first round match at the All-England Tennis club later in the week, Na Li of China will take on Alla Kudryavtseva of Russia here today.
The first round match between Li and Kudryavtseva has the potential to be a very interesting match. While Li is bidding to win the second Grand Slam title having won the French Open earlier this month, Kudryavtseva is attempting
to win the first Grand Slam of her career.
Li is definitely the favourite to win the match against Kudryavtseva and rightly so giver her recent form. Li won the Medibank International Sydney before clinching French Open, her first-ever Grand Slam title. The Chinese tennis
ace is presenting the tremendous form of her tennis career and is at 27/9 this year.
She comes into the Wimbledon Championships having done very well last season as she made it to the quarterfinals before losing to the ultimate defending champion, Serena Williams. And once again she is sharing the quarter with
Williams, much to Li’s dismay as if the American started to hit big, Li’s path to semi-finals could be blocked, however, look for the Chinese to reach the second round with utmost ease.
