Wozniak injures wrist, out of Cincinnati
Canadian Aleksandra Wozniak has injured her right wrist, deciding to pull out of the two upcoming tournaments that she had scheduled on her tour. She will sit out both San Diego and Cincinnati events, in hopes of recovering from injury in time to appear at the Rogers Cup in her home town of Montreal.
"I’m feeling a lot of pain. It's obvious that I want to play in the Rogers Cup because it's the tournament I've been waiting for all season," the 22-year-old Wozniak admitted. "I still have to take things day by day."
Wozniak may just receive an invitation to the Rogers Cup, although official qualifying for the Montreal event begins on August 13th. She is currently the highest ranked player from Canada, making it more than likely that she will be invited to bypass the qualifiers and participate. She is currently ranked as the world top 50 on the WTA tour.
Wrist acts up after defeat
After being defeated in the first round of Stanford at the Bank of the West Classic, Wozniak has been enduring pain from tendonitis in her wrist.
The wrist injury began acting up following her match against 18-year-old Melanie Oudin.  Wozniak began feeling pain soon afterwards, but maintains a confident attitude, with hopes of recovery in time for the Montreal event in two weeks time. She is receiving medical treatment and attending physiotherapy sessions to aid her in recovering in time for Rogers Cup action.
"I'm an athlete, so I'm in good shape," she commented. "I think I can get better quickly."
Wozniak will have to wait until next week to find out whether she is officially confirmed to play the Rogers Cup. Meanwhile, she will lay low in the smaller events, with hopes of coming back strong and fully healed for the lead up to the US Open.
