Like many arctic islands, the food web for the Wrangle Island ecosystem relies mostly on the primary productivity of the surrounding oceans rather than the land plants, which are few in number and low in productivity.  The base of the food web is the coastal and oceanic plankton (algae), eaten by grazing zooplankton, eaten by fish, eaten by seals, eaten by polar bears.  The top trophic level (polar bears) are marine mammals almost as much as terrestial mammals.
