  1. I have a Moby wrap and a Baby Bjorn, and the Moby is far more comfortable and secure imo.  It holds the baby closer to my body and she doesn't wobble at all where she does in the Baby Bjorn.  Also, it's easier for me to support her head when she falls asleep - in the Baby Bjorn there is no way to support her head snugly- it just flops over until it hits the outside edge of the carrier.  I have also found the wrap distributes the weight over a larger portion of the back which makes it less painful for me.

  2. I really don't like Baby Bjorns much.  They allow baby's weight to be solely placed on his/her pelvis with arms and legs dangling.  This offers pretty bad support for baby's spine and back, and isn't very comfortable.  They also are harder to adjust to be comfortable on mom because they don't distribute the baby's weight over much of mom's body.

Wraps offer different layers of support for baby and distribute baby's weight over mom's shoulders, back, hips, and abs, which makes it easier to carry a baby for longer periods of time.  Yes, wraps are perfectly safe and secure.

  3. The maya wrap I found hurt my shoulder, and restricted my arm movement. I like a my mei tai the best. It can be used for baby on front, hip and back.

  4. Baby bjorns are awful for your baby's back.  Look at this picture: http://www.maternityandbabyshoppingmart....

Do you see how the baby's legs are dangling straight down?  That means the baby's entire weight is on their crotch and tailbone and their hips are in a suboptimal position.

Do you see how in these:

The legs are about 90 degrees from the baby's torso, and about 90degrees from each other.  That means the weight is being supported by the baby's buttocks and thighs and the hips are in the right position for proper development (also why you are supposed to double diaper when swaddling to keep the legs further apart)

In these the baby is "buddah"/Indian/"tailor" sitting which is also good for legs and hips.

For mom you want the shoulder straps to be wide and sit further towards the shoulder bones then in towards the neck.  The straps should follow the natural cross of back muscles which is slightly below the shoulder blades and down towards the hips (not crossing near the neck).  Mom should be standing with her spine perfectly aligned, not leaning forwards or backwards.

Wraps and Mei Teis/Asian baby carriers are totally secure.  I had a modified ABC where instead of two sets of straps (one at mom's waist one at the top) there is just one set that goes from the top of the carrier over the shoulders, crossed in the back and then through a hoop at moms waist and back to the back and tied.  The hoop broke and my baby -though tilted was perfectly secure.  I have tried to drop the baby down a few inches to get more comfortable and the friction was such that I had to take the whole thing off rather than just loosen the straps and wiggle.

  5. Baby Bjorn. The way it's designed, it really supports your back.

  6. I imagine it depends on the age and size of your baby.  I have a Snugli and a hotsling.  The Snugli is better for a six month old plus and is similar to a Baby Bjorn.  The hotsling is better for newborns.

  7. Wraps are good for babies when they're young, but can get to be a hassle when they become more mobile and unless you put it on very quickly, they might wriggle about and not like it. I stopped using my wrap when my son turned one and now we use a mei tai, which is more structured and easier to put it. Another problem I had with my stretchy wrap is that when my son reached a certain weight, I needed to back carry and I couldn't do that with a stretch wrap (woven wraps, yes, but not the one I made). I then loved the mei tai, which allowed for easy back carry and no strain on my shoulders!

  8. baby bjorn

  9. baby Bjorn. That's what we kept after trying the wraps plus it's more comfortable.
