  1. the simple answer is as follows

    1) Trees take in carbon dioxide and give off oxygen which we in turn breath.  This is a very important part of our environment because it is a huge source of oxygen that we need to survive.

    2) Trees hold soil in place.  The roots of trees will prevent erosion and landslides because they stabalize the ground by holding the soil in place.

    3) Trees also purify water because as it travels through the leaves and then exits as evaporation or evapotranspiration (dew) it is pure and no contaminants come with it.  Also they are kep to the water cycle and water storage processes.
