another example is 8 multiplied by m; would that be 8m (m being superscript)

  1. Seven less than eleven can be expressed as 11 - 7 which is 4.  The other example of 8 multiplied by m would be 8 times m or 8m but m is not superscript.  

    If you have a value in the superscript, like 3², it means multiply the number beneath it times itself the number of times in the superscript.  For example,

    3² = 3*3 = 9

    5² = 5*5 = 25

    4³ = 4*4*4 = 64

    2³ = 2*2*2 = 8
