P(2,3), m=2

this is what i got

y=mx+b

2=2*3+b

2=6+b

-4=b

y=2x-4

..is that right or is it suppose to be in Ax+By= C

  1. You used the wrong point.  P(2,3) means x=2 and y=3.

    (You should check if you equation y=2x-4 is correct using

    ..  y=3, but 2x-4=0, so y=2x-4 is wrong)

    y=mx+b       (use x=2 and y=3)

    3=2*2+b

    3-4 = b

    -1 = b

    y = 2x - 1

    If the problem says to write the answer in General Form Ax + By + C = 0

    then do it

    2x - y - 1 = 0

  2. y = 2x + c

    since it passes thru (2,3)

    3 = 2*2 + c, so c = -1

    y = 2x - 1

  3. You need to find "b" in y = mx + b, so:

    3 = 2 * 2 + b ==> b = 3 - 4 = -1

    Hence equation of line ==> y = 2x - 1

    Or if you want in the general form of Ax + By + C = 0, then:

    2x - y - 1 = 0

    Hope this helps.

  4. Answering the question of what is the equation of the line, you mixed up the x and y when you solved for b.  As pointed out above, you should have done

    3=2*2+b

    3=4+b

    -1=b

    and y=2x-1 for the equation.

    Answering your other question, y=mx+b and Ax+By=C are both acceptable ways to write the equations of a line.  If you have not been given specific instructions on the form of equation you are supposed to use in the answer, either is acceptable.
