  1. INTERVIEW ON RAHUL DRAVID

    What are your greatest innings?

    Dravid

I would say the 180 at Calcutta against Australia; to win that Test match really stands out. It was special to be part of that partnership (with Laxman) and is something that I will always remember. The 240 I scored against Australia at Adelaide to win and the 140 at Headingley - these were significant contributions to Test wins and in my 100 Test matches they were significant victories for India and to have played a part in those gives me a lot of satisfaction.

How do your fans perceive you as a person, in your opinion?

    Dravid

I guess the image of me is that I am the same sort of person off the field as I am on it. (But) I am a lot more relaxed off the field and like everyone else I have a circle of friends and a lot of the guys that I grew up with at school and uni are doing very different things, none of them are cricketers. We catch up on old times and have a laugh when we can though it is tough with the amount of cricket that we play. Off the field I try to be able to switch off.

Did you play any other sports?

    Dravid

I played hockey in school and was even selected for the Under-15 state team and eventually I had to choose between hockey and cricket. A couple of my class mates in the hockey team went on to play for India, one of them actually captained India. We had a good team in school and we won all the tournaments so it was good fun and I enjoyed playing hockey because I enjoy any team sport. It was only when I went to university (to study commerce) that I stuck to one sport.

    Do you have other interests?

    Dravid

I have a few rounds of golf but I’m not very good at it so I use it as a means of relaxation. I like reading; I read a lot. I read about cricket, different sports, or maybe something that Greg Chappell and Ian Fraser have given me on teams, management and captaincy. I listen to the odd bit of music and at the moment we have a little son so that takes up a lot of my time. That’s been fantastic and has been the highlight of my last year. I spend as much time with him as I can.
