Write the function in vertex form....?

Question

y= x^2 -4x +1 and y = -6x^2 - 12x - 1

how do u convert the equations.. just can do one, ill just follow the steps

y= x^2 -4x +1

y-1= x^2 -4x

complte the square

y-1+4= x^2 -4x+4

y+3 = (x-2)^2

so y = (x-2)^2-3

the next one is a little messy

y = -6x^2 - 12x - 1

y+1 =  -6x^2 - 12x

y+1 = -6(x^2 +2x)

complete the square

y+1-6*1 = -6(x^2 +2x+1)

y+1-6=-6(x^2 +2x+1)

y-5= -6(x+1)^2

y = -6(x+1)^2+5
