I'm not sure what I would put for the electron/oxidation state.

would it be KBr2 + Cu(OH)2 ?

  1. yes, right

    CuBr2(aq) and 2 KOH(aq) ------>  KBr2 (aq) + Cu(OH)2 (s)

    or only Cu^2+   + 2 OH^-      --------> Cu(OH)2 (s)

    because all the other ions are same in products as well as in reactantes.

  2. K has a charge of +1, and Br -1, so the compound would be KBr, not KBr2.  But since you ask for the total ionic equation, you should split up this soluble compound into ions:

    Cu2+ + 2Br- + 2K+ + 2OH- -------> Cu(OH)2 + 2K+ + 2Br-

    The Cu(OH)2 does not get split up as it is insoluble.
