Writing A Political Current Events Essay...?

Question

Im writing a current events essay for freshman year, and I choose the 2008 election between Barack Obama and John McCain. What do you think I should do to start? Do you think I should state my beliefs about this election, and who I want to be president. Because we don't know all the details about vice presidents and such, what do you think I should do?
