Writing a letter in French?

Question

Long story short, my grandfather and I are trying (keyword TRY) to self-teach ourselves French by writing letters back and forth in French. The thing is, my mom (who went on a college trip there) only knows how to say "I need to get to the airport at..." "Where is your bathroom" and "I apologize for eating your cookies."

Since I most certainly did not eat Grandpa's cookies this summer, can anybody provide a link to an online French dictionary or something?

Basically, I want to write things like how are you and thank you for taking care of me this summer and stuff like that.

also try babelfish.yahoo.com   but I dont trust it 100% so dont realy on it to be 100% correct and sometimes depending on what you try to translate it can give you something way different.

The best thing to do would be to get a cd + book set, like a living world, or the like. Also, buy a good french english dictionary and a becherelle (a book which shows all conjugations for all tenses).

Even if you started to write the words in French, doesn't mean you'll understand the grammar which is very different than English. At least if you start with a lesson set you'll be learning something of the basics of written French.

It is not very difficult to learn to speak French however it is VERY difficult to learn to write.
