Writing a paper...?

I'm also writing an argumentative paper on Homeschooling. I was actually also wondering (more for myself and my daughter rather tahn my paper) if anyone knows of any option to have your child homeschooled... but not by you. Does taht make sense? Like if I wanted to have my career but have my daugheter be homeschooled. Are there options for that?

I also need opinions about the issue of homeschooling vs. public or even private schooling. NOTHING ABOUT THE SOCIAL SKILLS...I'm sick of hearing about that! Thanks:)

  1. Some families here have a governess (or govie) to teach their kids. We used to have a govie when I was younger.

  2. Well, if I had kids, I'd homeschool them with one of the neighbors for a mentor. They have six kids and are living on a single teachers salary in a small rural town. THe oldest is 18 and has graduated college as a Registered Nurse. Another is 16 and in college. The 12 year old is one of the most responsible kids I've ever seen. The four year old could actually count to 50 and read before she was five.

Those kids are socialized and have developed a work ethic that has them booked for chores and projects months in advance.

There's another family in the community and is the same. In fact, I don't know a single homeschooled family in this area who's kids aren't turning out well. I have many of them working here on the farm on and off doing a wide variety of projects. I used to have public school kids of the same age here too, and they can't problem solve, follow directions, or work unsupervised like the homeschooled kids can.

I'm really impressed with the homeschooled kids I've been around. I know there's failures, but I haven't been around any.

If my kids turned out half as good as that lot, I'd be thrilled.

  3. Well, as to homeschooling by someone else, that is what my neighbours down the street do. They hire a couple of college girls to tutor (or teach) their girls (ages 11 and 9). It seems to be working well for them, but they have a TON of money. Tutors certainly aren't inexpensive.

And, as to state laws in Oklahoma, there really aren't any. Oklahoma is an extremely easy state to homeschool in with lots of homeschool groups available for people to plug into.

I feel that homeschooling is superior to most private and public schools because it teaches children to learn and to be truly involved in their education rather than simply memorizing material for tests.

  4. homeschooling other than by a parent is subject to state law

as for homeschool vs public school

shop (auto, electronic, plastics, fibre glass, metal), drama, music, choir, band, school newspaper, school year book, radio station, tv station, lab chemistry, lab physics

    noon concerts

    PE

    Football

    Cheerleading

    Dances

    Proms

  5. LOL you erased your first question....

Here are some sites that can help you with your paper...

The school my 7th grader is supposed to go to is full of gang rivalry, drugs, guns, and fights. Kids go to jail there everyday for the things I listed. I homeschool because besides giving my child the best education there is, I'd rather have him home than in jail or dead because of where he goes to school.

As far as for your own child...you need to find out what the homeschool laws are where you live, vary state to state. You could probably find someone qualified to teach your child for you. If having someone else homeschool your child is your final decision then I'd make sure that they are 100% into it. Homeschooling is very time consuming and requires lots of patience.

    Good luck on your paper

  6. If your child is old enough to stay home alone, she could do online schooling with the oversight of an online teacher.

If she's too young to be home alone, then you'd need to get her a tutor who would also function as kid sitter.  That would be VERY expensive.

I've HS'ed my son for five years and loved every minute of it.  He has, too!  Search through former questions on this forum and you'll find why people homeschool, how they choose curriculum, what curricula they use, what social activities their children participate in, how PE is handled, how grades are determined (both placement and grading scales), how to get into college when you're HS'ed, what the state laws are, and a whole host of other info.

  7. Ha, I don't blame you for being sick of hearing about the social skills part.

I don't know how old your daughter is but I homeschooled myself from about 8-12 grades. Unless there is at least one parent staying home with the child though, you have to be careful because state laws may consider your "homeschooling" child-neglect.

You might look into private tutoring and also your state's laws concerning homeschooling.
