What are some of the differing reasons for the development of writing in various early civilizations? What are some of the differences in its use?

  1. Sumerian Cuneiform was developed mainly for business purposes-to keep track of who owed what. That's the oldest writing I know of.


  2. The development in writing didnt occur until civilizations wanted to write down their history so it would stand the test of time.

    For example, in Egypt they wrote on their walls so as thier history would never have been forgotten.

    Writing was also used as a tool to differentiate poor from the rich. The rich always had time on their hands, so they developed writing as a fun way to pass time, or to note themselves as higher up than other people.
