What happens if you write the incorrect amount on the back of a deposit slip?

  1. The bank will noyify you, unless they belly up like so many banks will do in the near future.


  2. You mention an envelope - does that mean you made a deposit at an ATM?  If so, and you entered the correct amount of cash into the machine, then there shouldn't be a problem.  If you entered the wrong amount, they will send you a correction notice.

    I am assuming you did this at an ATM because if you handed the deposit to a teller, the error should have been caught when the teller counted the cash.

    You should always call your bank for any problems or questions with your account.  They can tell you exactly what will happen.

  3. The bank will always count the cash that's in the envelope. If the number you wrote doesn't match the actual cash, they will credit you with the cash that's actually there, not the number you wrote.
