Question:

Wrong diesel? Please help!

Hi, my BMW is a diesel. Yesterday I went to a Shell station and had a blond moment. I put some V-Power diesel in not realising there was normal diesel available (never had a diesel car before). I was told it's just a better diesel and I could normally drive. My questions are:

1) is it really ok for my car?

2) can I then top it up with normal diesel?

  1. It's actually better for you car, and yes it mixes with regular diesel fuel without any problems.

  2. "Diesel is Diesel!" Difference Shell does add an aditive to help it run cleaner. Without getting into LONG Details :)) you're Fine.

  3. Shell's "V-Power" brand is just their name for their high-performance gasoline and diesel.  Their USA website only seems to have information on V-Power gasoline, but generally what they're saying is that it's designed to help keep your engine free of carbon deposits.  Basically, it helps to clean out your engine.

I haven't found anything that would indicate that using it could be harmful to your car.  The only thing that it's likely to hurt is your wallet, since it's more expensive than regular diesel fuel.  You can keep using regular diesel fuel.
