  1. Hurricane Bertha started off as a tropical depression off the coast of Africa, developed into a tropical storm and is now a category 3 hurricane (there are 5 categories; 3 and up being major).  So, Bertha is a major hurricane, although I think it is likely to weaken slightly but keep to the news, it may have its eyes on the US.  I'm not a meteorologist so don't get worried.

  2. yes you are right!. hurricanes have set names and every 4 years you see the same name unless the name was retired like andrew, and katrina.

also bertha in 1996 formed in the same area as bertha 2008, and also became a hurricane on july 7 just like bertha 2008. also bertha 1996 hit a very similar area to bertha 2008. bertha 1996 hit NC, and this one may hit either bermuda, or the east coast, or stay out to sea

  3. ya i was thinking the same thing and then i hear that it is just became this years first hurricane....

    idk im confused too

  4. You know, I had the strangest sense of deja vu when I read about this new hurricane Bertha. You just might be right.

  5. shes been out there a while....

  6. we did

  7. The names get reused every 6 years (unless they are retired), so it is likely you will see quite a few names multiple times. In this case, the deja vu you are having probably relates to Hurricane Bertha from 1996. That storm also formed way out in the Atlantic and became a major hurricane. In fact, the only difference between Bertha 2008 and Bertha 1996 will be the end path. The 1996 storm hit North Carolina as a Category 2, while the 2008 storm should miss the U.S. completely and instead curve out to sea, likely only getting close to Bermuda.
