i own an o8 kawi vulcan 500. i filled it up and it died on me at 103 miles. this means i avg 30 something miles to the gallon since i need to go into the reserve tank at .8 gallons. i only use it for a 10 minute commute to work, what could be wrong. i have dropped it twice could that have messed up something.

  1. watch the carb overflow on your bike, i have a strong suspision that it's probably the reason behind it...

  2. Check your fuel lines.  When the bike fell it may have caused a leak.  Until the problem is resolved i would advise you to resist from riding until the matter is fixed.

  3. You may have just dented the gas tank.  Take it to a shop and they could fix it for you pretty easily.

  4. be carefull riding those things. I know 5 people that have died in motorcycle accidents and 0 people that have dies in car wrecks. they are very dangerous.

  5. if you're not smelling gasoline, you probably don't have a leak. may be something restricting the air entering the carb or throttle body if its fuel injected. check the breather to make sure its not clogged. it could be the oxygen sensor, if it is fuel injected. it will be located on the exhaust pipe. make sure the wire to it isnt loose or broke.

  6. of course, check to see if you have gas...

and how much have you been avg-ing? if you left it in the hot sun, some could/will evaporate. But I think you probably got some ethenol gas.... it sucks, screws with your gas miliage, AND it will evaporate.

and if you dropped it, for sure some of the gas came out.  I think you'll be ok, nothing really to worry about.

  7. Are you by any chance driving around with the choke on?

    Good Luck....
