Wth is wrong with my Pokemon Gold?

Ok, so here's the problem. Whenever I save the game, and turn it off, Continue doesn't show up. Instead, it's just New Game and Options. it's really getting on my nerves. What happened to it?

the game battery's OLD & there's no way 2 fix it..my GOLD & SILVER do the same thing so i don't play them & if you go 2 any GAMESTOP store you'll see there's no early pkmn games because they STOPPED selling them back in MAY because of this problem...glad 2 answer :)
