Wu Minxia - He Zi win Women’s 3m Springboard Synchronised heats: 2011 World Diving Championships
Wu Minxia and He Zi of China conquered the preliminary rounds of Women’s 3m Springboard Synchronised meet on the initial day of the 2011 World Championships in Shanghai, on Saturday, July 16.
The duo of Chinese divers impressed the Shanghai Aquatics arena with their stunning performance in the first diving event, where they scored a total of 324.90 points to earn the top qualification berth in the final rounds. They were followed by Ukrainian
pair of Pysmenska Anna and Fedorova Olena, who proved their eligibility for the second best qualification spot by earning 291.90 points. The third spot in the final was won by the Italian team which comprised of Dallape Francesca and Cagnotto Tania, who remained
only 13.60 points behind the Ukrainian team, as they earned 288.30 points.
Minxia earned four Olympic medals while competing in the Olympic Games of 2004 and 2008. In the 2004 edition of the event, she won the gold medal in Springboard Synchronised discipline along with the silver medal in 3m springboard individual meet. She also
won the gold medal in the 3m Springboard Synchronised category at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. In the same event, she earned a bronze medal in the individual springboard event.
Russian pair of Philippova Svetlana and Pozdniakova Anastasia occupied the fourth best spot of the event, as they stayed only 0.28 points away and scored a total of 288.12 points. The fifth qualification spot was secured by Smith Anabelle and Stratton Sharleen
of Australia, who scored 285.90 points. In the meantime, Dieckow Katja and Freitag Uschi of Germany and Loukas Christina and Cook Kassidy ended in a tie as the sixth best duo. Both teams scored 276.90 points.
For the eighth best qualification spot, Heymans Emilie and Abel Jennifer of Canada stayed only 3 points away from the Mexican duo of Chavez Arantxa and Sanchez Laura. The pair managed to score 275.10 points.
The arena enjoyed the opening day of the World Diving Championships, whereas, these divers will have the opportunity to improve their position in the final rounds, where they will compete again to earn a podium finish.
