Wu Minxia - He Zi win Women’s 3m Springboard Synchronised title - 2011 World Diving Championships
Duo of Chinese divers, Wu Minxia and He Zi, made an astonishing effort by winning the gold medal of the Women’s 3m Springboard Synchronised event on the first day of the 2011 World Diving Championships, on Saturday, July 16, in Shanghai.
The Chinese pair won the hearts of arena by sustaining their top qualification spot in the final, as the conquered the gold medal with a marvellous effort of 356.40 points. The silver medal was captured by Canadian pair of Heymans Emilie and Abel Jennifer,
who elevated from the eight qualification spot to second position, by securing 313.50 points.
The bronze medal was occupied by Australian duo of Smith Anabelle and Stratton Sharleen, who reached the podium for third position with 306.90 points. The arena was impressed with the performance of the Australian pair, as they improved their standing from
fifth best qualifying team to third position holders.
The Australians were followed by the team of Pysmenska Anna and Fedorova Olena of Ukraine, who failed to maintain their second qualifying spot and settled as the fourth best duo in the final rounds. In addition, the German duo of Dieckow Katja and Freitag
Uschi who qualified as the sixth best team, also improved their standing to fifth position, by scoring 299.40 points. Dallape Francesca and Cagnotto Tania of Italy achieved 297.60 points to obtain the sixth position in the synchronised event.
In the meantime, Loukas Christina and Cook Kassidy of USA displayed a deteriorating performance, as they failed to maintain their sixth position and dropped down to seventh spot, by scoring 288.00 points. They were followed by the Russian Duo of Philippova
Svetlana and Pozdniakova Anastasia, who ended as the eight best pair, by gaining 282.72 points.
The initial session of the 14th Federation Internationale de Natation (FINA) organised World Championships concluded with great success, where the Chinese divers dominated the first final of the competition. Furthermore, the winners will be awarded
awards and accolades for their outstanding efforts in the medal ceremony of the event.
