Wu Minxia conquers Women’s 3m Springboard semi-final: Day seven – 2011 World Diving Championships
Wu Minxia of China conquered the semi-final of Women’s 3m Springboard event on day three of the 2011 World Diving Championships in Shanghai, on Friday, July 22.
Minxia, who qualified as the second finest diver into the meet, alleviated her swim in the semi-final to overwhelm the effort of the finest diver of the qualifying rounds, He Zi. With her astonishing effort, Minxia has become China’s top hope to bring the
gold medal home.
She accomplished a score of 360.65 seconds to dominate the semi-final and occupy the top qualification spot into the final round. In the meantime, Zi, who failed to sustain her finest spot of the event, was unable to overcome Jennifer Abel’s effort for the
second best position. Abel of Canada was the second best diver, as she obtained a score of 359.35 points. Abel was followed by Zi, who stayed 1.30 points behind her and earned a score of 358.05 points.
Moments later, Emile Heymans of Canada, who qualified as the fifth best diver, moved up to the fourth finest spot in the semi-final, as she obtained a score of 357.90 points. Kelci Bryant of USA, who qualified as the eighth diver into the semi-final, also
earned fifth finest spot in the final round, by scoring 335.25 points. She was followed by her team-member, Christina Loukas of USA, who maintained her sixth finest spot of the event, by gaining a score of 328.95 points.
Russia’s Nadezda Bazhina was the seventh best diver of the event, as she pocketed a score of 327.55 points. The eighth position was secured by Sharleen Stratton of Australia, who managed to clinch the eighth qualifying spot, with a total score of 327.40
points.
The arena applauded for the immaculate effort of all participants, while these finalists will be provided with a chance to compete with each other in the final round. Furthermore, Minxia was extremely happy after winning the top qualifying position and stated
that she will try her best to win the gold medal of the 3m event.
