  1. "Wuthering Heights" is hardly classical--it's a prime example of romanticism nearly run wild, and it invites parody. Not that it's BAD, but some don't care much for its near-excesses. "Pride and Prejudice" is more "classical" in the literal sense. Austen's characters get in trouble only when they indulge themselves; the moral framework of the book is rooted in the balanced neo-Classicism of the 18th century.

One is not "better" than the other--for most of us each has its virtues, but I wouldn't put them next to each other on a bookshelf.

  2. I am more partial to Pride and Prejudice myself as I prefer my fiction on the light side, and Pride and Prejudice is full of humour.  And Elizabeth Bennett is one of fiction's most charming heroines.

If any of the Brontes had a sense of humour, they kept it to themselves, and Wuthering Heights is a pretty grim book.  But it is a very passionate love story and a lot of people like it, though the hero and heroine are very strange, violent characters.  It's gripping though, even if you dislike the characters.

Really, I would suggest reading both.  If you start reading one and find you don't like it, you could always switch to the other one.

  3. pride and prejudice for sure. the characters aren't quite as broken if you ask me.

  4. Definitely pride and prejudice. Wuthering Heights was a little confusing in my opinion.

  5. If you have seen Pride and prejudice the film then you might find the book a bit boring. if you havnt then definitely watch it after the book. i'm struggling with it at the moment coz i know exactly whats gna happen. havnt read wuthering heights but i plan to!!!!!!!

  6. I personally prefer Wuthering Heights, but they're both really good :)

  7. Pride and Prejudice- Jane Austen

  8. Oh my, that choice is so hard! They are both classic pieces of literature, and I highly recommend both. But if I HAD to choose, I would choose Pride and Prejudice. I just like the characters better all around.

  9. Wuthering Heights. I've always liked EB better than JA.

  10. Pride and Prejudice.  one of my favorite books ever.

  11. pride and prejudice, you should read both though!

  12. Both are great classical reads, for I reckon they're equally acclaimed by critics. Many call Wuthering Heights a confusing tangle of events and characters, but really it's a fine classical novel. Pride and Prejudice is an easier novel, not at all difficult to understand. It's plot is simply but cleverly woven, which makes it a great classical read.

So, if you want to read somethin' not at all confusing, choose Pride and Prejudice. Happy readin'!

  13. Definitely Wuthering Heights!  A much more interesting and fun read.  More of a timeless book, to my taste anyway, there are people who love Jane Austen books and maybe you are one of them.  Nothing stopping you from reading both.  However, I highly recommend Wuthering Heights, and after you have read the book look up the song of the same name by Kate Bush, beautiful song, and such a perfect musical interpretation.  Check out both.

  14. Pride and Prejudice
