Wuthering Heights......?

What is your opinion on the novel Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte? What did you think of the characters of Catherine and Heathcliff?

I really did like the book.  But Heathcliff... not a very likeable character, in my opinion.  Catherine could seem like a bit of a cry baby (lol) but she seemed sweet.

I liked this book.  And, I know I'm probably in the minority, I like Heathcliff.  I know he's horrible, but I like that character.  It's not because I think he's great or that he got what he deserved or anything, but I just think he's fascinating.  He's so... intense.  Dark, angry, powerful, and oh so intriguing.  He really follows things through to the end, no matter what.  He puts a whole new level to the words "committed" and "revenge."  Woe to the person who incurs his ire!

I like Catherine too, but to a lesser extent.  I don't know why I like her exactly.  Maybe I like her because she caused her own suffering.  It was self sabotage.  I like the overly dramatic edge in every single one of her actions.  One part of me wanted to yell at her "it serves you right!" while the other was screaming at the injustice of her pain, even if it was self imposed.

I like Catherine better than young Cathy.  I thought Cathy could have been a little more assertive, but I did appreciate that she, too, went out to get what she wanted, like when she wrote Linton letters against Nelly's orders.

In my opinion it's the greatest novel ever written.

Heathcliff was a horrible man who was obsessed and utterly devoted to Catherine.

Catherine was a drama queen and a brat, but I think in her mind she was trying to do the right thing.  She just had a screwed up idea about what the right thing was.

I hated both of them. It just felt like they spent the entire book screaming at each other while Kathy cried.

Horrible, horrible book.
