Think about the influence of the physical landscape in the novel. What role do the moors play in the development of the story, and in the presentation of the characters? How does Catherine's abiding love of the moors help us to understand her character? What do the moors come to symbolize in the novel?

  1. the moors symbolize heathcliff. he's wild and untamed, her love for him goes hand in hand with the moors. many people think that the moors aren't very scenic with the gnarled trees crooked from the merciless wind but to cathy they represent her love for heathliff. she relinquishes him and marries another but the moor is always there calling her back to its rugged beauty. her love for the moor shows that she at heart is unchanged as it holds such a place in her heart. reread the book and let yourself really dwell on the imagery of the moors, the imagery used for them is so like that to describe the love between them and heathcliff himself. for anyone that hs read and loved the book as i have wuthering heights is all about the untamed beauty of the wild and what is truly loved best will be loved forever. the unyeildingness (not too sure if this is def a word but i couldn't think of another work similar)  of the moor symbolizes their love.
