so.. I was just wondering.

Why is it always "www" at the beginning of websites?

What does the www do?

Also, why w? Why not j?

  2. it stands for world wide web. But not all websites have www its also http:// thats what my website starts with.

  4. It is just a default and stands for world wide web. The owners of domains can change it to other things to divide up the domain such as what Yahoo does with mail, answers, my, news, etc.
