  1. Yes, it sounds like a USB error.

    Other possibilities include:

    1) Your camera has flat batteries or is turned off.

    2) You are not following the correct procedure. Have you successfully transferred videos in the past using this camera and this computer? Check the manual.

    3) Do you have the camera plugged into a USB port directly connected to your computer or is it hanging off a USB hub or a USB port in your keyboard? Some USB devices don't work right unless you plug them directly into the computer's USB ports. I'm assuming it's connected via USB? Not FireWire or something else?

    Things to try:

    1) Replace the batteries in the camera

    2) Try a different cable (or test your cable with a known good device to see if it's faulty)

    3) As previously suggested, try a different USB port. Make sure it's one direct from your computer and not from a hub or repeater.

    4) Check your manual to ensure that you are following the correct procedure

    5) If the camera records to a solid state device like an SD or CF card and you won't lose anything irreplaceable, format the card and try again.

    Hope this helps.

PS: Just out of interest, what type of computer are you using? Mac? Windows? Linux?

  2. That sounds like a USB error - either the camera's broken, the USB port's broken (try a different one), the cable's broken or you need a driver.  Most USB devices don't need a dedicated driver, but it's a possibility.
