Wycliff Palu might miss Rugby World Cup 2011 due to knee injury - Rugby News
Wycliff Palu, who was discarded from the Wallabies’ squad for the Tri-Nations Cup 2011 due to a shoulder injury, is feared to miss the Rugby World Cup 2011 after sustaining a devastating blow to his knee. A Wallabies’ spokesman told the media on July 28
that Palu has undergone surgery which will take more than one month to recover from.
The Wallabies have received the second big blow for their Rugby World Cup 2011 selections in short span of time as Richard Brown has already been ruled out of world showpiece on July 27. Richard Brown was declared unfit to participate in RWC due to shoulder
injury.
Talking to the reporters, Wallabies’ spokesman said that, “It was more an irritant than anything and there was an opportunity to (have the operation) now and get it done.”
Wycliff Palu has been playing for the Australian national side since 2006 and has represented the Wallaby side in 36 matches. The flanker and number eight player has a long history of injuries and has been disrupted by various mishaps in his career. He sustained
the shoulder injury for the first time in 2006 which deprived him from the second half of the Super Rugby season.
Palu made his Super Rugby debut for New South Wales Waratahs in 2005 and remained impressive. Even after playing half a season of Super Rugby in 2006 he was included in Wallabies national side but failed to make his place in the Australian squad for Rugby
World Cup 2007. He made a comeback into Aussie squad and participated in the Tri-Nation Cup 2009 but had to quit again due to a hand injury.
A knee injury again ruled him out from the Super Rugby championship 2010 as the limping Palu suffered another setback. He also missed the first five rounds of Super Rugby 2011 with the same issue.
The recent injury has left a big question mark on his selection for Rugby World Cup 2011. The RWC 2011 is kicking off on September 9 this year and the Australian Rugby Union has to announce their 30 member crew for the showpiece on or before August 19.
