Wyldecrest Park Homes Welsh Open 2011 qualifiers at World Snooker Academy: Final Day Highlights
Fourth and final day of the Wyldecrest Park Homes Welsh Open 2011 qualifiers round ended at World Snooker Academy in Sheffield on Friday, February 11, 2011. The top 16 qualifiers moved forward into
the first round of the tournament which commenced on Monday, February 14, 2011 at the Newport Centre, Newport.
Fans were witness to some enthralling matches during the final day. The first match between the young Englishman, Jack Lisowski and his compatriot, Martin Gould, was an exciting encounter. Earlier,
Lisowski had a massive win against Fergal O`Brien 4-0 in the third round of qualifiers.
The young cueman ensured his presence at Newport Centre with a narrow victory over Gould. Gould had chances to lead early, but Jack stole them and got a 1-0 lead with a 72-point break. Gould hit back
in the next frames and took the game to his favour, hitting splendid knocks of 86, 82, 41 and 25 to get a 2-1 lead over Lisowski.
The young Englishman, Lisowski, leveled the score at 2-2 in the next frame with a fine 59-point break on the baize. Soon he was leading 3-2 when he fired a terrific century break of 100. Gould pulled
level at 3-3 after scoring some small breaks that dragged the game into a decider frame.
A superb clearance of 62 from the young Lisowski in the decider frame led him to the victory and he booked his place in the first round of Welsh Open 2011 against the then-world number one and current
Welsh Open champion, John Higgins.
Most of the Day 4 matches were total whitewashes. The first whitewash was between Dave Harold and Liang Wenbo. Both of them played against each other in 2009 World Championship qualifiers where Liang
defeated Harold 10-3. Harold took his revenge in the Welsh Open 2011 qualifiers, whitewashing Liang 4-0.
In other whitewashes, Barry Hawkins beat Andy Hicks 4-0 to play against Ali Carter, the 2010 Welsh Open runner-up. Marcus Campbell had a 4-0 win against Joe Jogia and booked his place in the first
round of Welsh Open 2011 against former Masters champion, China’s Ding Junhui. Gerard Greene and Stuart Bingham won their respective matches, 4-0, defeating Ian McCulloch and Paul Davison.
Gerard will be facing Stephen Maguire and Stuart will meet the German Masters 2011 runner-up, Mark Selby at the Newport Centre. In another match, Jamie Burnett whitewashed Tom Ford 4-0 and stormed
into the first round where he is playing against former world champion, Greame Dott of Scotland.
However two of the Day 4 qualifying matches, Ryan Day vs Jimmy White, and Matthew Stevens vs Anthony Hamilton, were played on Monday, February 14, 2011 at the Newport Centre. Day whitewashed Jimmy
white while Stevens defeated Hamilton by 4-2.
