Wyndham Championship: FedEx Cup playoffs spot on the line
This year’s Wyndham Championship will take place at Sedgefield Country Club, the event tees off on Thursday, 16th August, 2012. For many players, it will be just another tournament.
However, a few of them will be taking things very seriously. Wyndham Championship is the last spot in terms of regular PGA season.
Many will be looking to earn some money to retain their PGA card for the next season but many will be looking to gain some FedEx points to take them to the FedEx playoffs.
The FedEx playoffs take place at the Barclays next week. There are some valuable points to win as the winner will bag 500 points. There are numerous players who are on the wrong side of the 125 players list that will be taking part in the FedEx Cup playoffs.
Players such as Brendan Steele have a chance to make into the top 125 list. Brendan is ranked at 126 with just 26 points behind 125th player, Rod Pampling.
Retief Goosen is also tied on 126th with Steele. All three of them will be taking to the field at Wyndham and there is a huge chance for both Goosen and Steele to make into the top 125 list.
Former PGA Championship winner Y.E. Yang has had three consecutive FedEx Cup playoffs and surely he would not want to miss this year as well. For that to happen, Y.E. would have to play extremely well because he is 129th as of with 321 points.
John Daly’s recent performances have earned him some points but he is still quite far off. His showing at Reno Tahoe Open and PGA Championship took him to 137th in the list.
Although he is quite far behind but he still has an outside chance to make a breakthrough in the top 125 list. If he manages a top-ten finish at Wyndham, then surely he will be featuring in the Fed Ex Cup playoffs.
However, this year, it will not be same old Wyndham as they have shifted the greens. The grass on the top has also been changed, which makes it an all together different ball game now.
