    X + 0.04X = 364   [Note that 0.04 is equivalent to 4%]

    Then you can pull out the X from the left side.

    X(1+0.04) = 364

    X(1.04) = 364

    Divide both sides by 1.04 to get X by itself.

    X = 364/1.04

    X = 350

    Double check by plugging 350 for X in the original equation.

    350 + 4% of 350     [4% of 350 is 14]

    350 + 14 = 364

    The answer works so the answer of 350 is correct.
