Bought an X-D memory card to use in my fiance's Olympus-500 camera. Can I down load the pictures from the card to my W3115, e machine, PC ? The PC has media center features with a port for XD plug in. Or do I have to purchase a card reader. Any advise I would truly be appreciative

  1. Yes! As long as you know for a fact it is a XD port, it wont be a problem. Obviously, if the built in card readers is not working, then you won't be able to copy the pictures over. When you plug in the memory card on an XP or Vista Computer, a screen should come up and say "Removable Disk" which will give you options how to open it. I usually just do the copy and paste method by selecting either "Copy pictures to a folder on my computer" or "Open folder to view files" option. If that doesn't work, go to "My Computer" and select the right "Removable disk."

I usually carry a memory card reader & a USB cable with me, so if I have to use a friends computer.

Just quick question, is that an Olympus Evolt E-500 DSLR?

If so, for future buys, I would actually recommend buying a Compact Flash (CF) Memory Card, they can be much faster then an XD card and at the higher res pictures, it won't take as long to write to the card in between each picture you take. The  CF card should say something like Ultra II, Ultra III, 80x speed, 133x speed.

    Hope that helps!
