Question:

X-Ray HELP!! Was not shielded!!!?

I had 4 chest x-rays 2 days ago, and the radiologist tech did not shield me. I asked her if she could shield my pelvic part, and she said that since it was my chest that was getting x-rayed I did not have to worry about it. Well, yeah. I'm totally freaking out and are worried. Would the radiation, or whatever I was exposed to, mess with my eggs? I want to have children one day...would everything be okay? (in other words, the radiation that I was exposed to, was it a high amount and is it detrimental?) I don't know....kinda worried. PLEASE HELP!!!

  1. X-Ray machines have low levels of radiation so you are ok. The tech should have shielded you as it is the policy of every hospital unless it's of your abdomen. You just don't want to have prolonged exposure.

  2. There's only so much radiation X-ray machines put out, and you're allowed so much radiation in one year. I am sure that the ammount that you received did not go above that ammount or go near it, so you should be fine. Tho i do think it was kind of stupid of the radiologist to not shield you when you asked, it was irresponsible of her to not do so. But, I believe you should be okay.

  3. Typically it takes MULTIPLE xrays and radiation exposure to become sterile.  If you're really really worried, I suggest seeing a fertility clinic and checking.

    Good Luck!

  4. probably, if it did then sue that woman

  5. Well, radiologists do know what they are doing, so if she says you did not have anything to worry about, then that should be good enough.

  6. You don't need to have your pelvis shielded for a Chest Xray. Not even a CT of the chest.

  7. Erm i don't think so cos if the peron says its okay then it is okay as the person would be trained and if you are kinda affected by the ray then you must see the doctor immedisately.

  8. no sweat, the beam is linear and missed that part of you.

  9. idk. thats phucked up if she didnt shield u for a reason. all my xrays are shielded

or maby u got a ct scan. u dont need a shield for those. shiels are made of lead that obsorbe the radiation before it messes up ur organs. if it was an x ray, they might as well have stuffed u in a micro wave. dont worry though if your ok now it prolly wasnt enough exposuer to do harm. but no more shieldless x-rays.

  10. My guess is that if the radiologist said that you're going to be fine, he's the one who went to school for it, he's got the degree, he does it every day, you'll be fine.

  11. you're fine! 1 xray is not enough radiation to do any damage.

  12. if everything goes alright then u can have a baby, but u can also adopt one, but i'm sure u don't. If u adopt a baby u'll still have a baby that u will luv and care 4 all the time!

  13. You're fine, the you would need about 100 unprotected X-Rays to cause any serious radiation damage.

  14. you'll be fine

  15. you worry to much XD!  o wait I mean...UR GONNA DIE!!! WRITE A WILL YOU ONLY HAVE 10 MINUTES TO LIVE O NO!!! rotflol

  16. Your messing with yourself. STOP!

Yes, a lot of x rays is dangerous but unless 4 x rays in 2 days or your allergic to x rays, it's OK.

  17. You don't have to worry, its true that she was x-raying your chest, not your pelvis, so you needn't worry about it. My bf works in hospi thats how I know. Yes, you were a bit exposed to radiation, but its harmless, you get more radiation inside of you by standing in front of a microwave while its on.. and P.S, dont stand infront of a microwave..

  18. I wouldn't worry about it if I were u.  That small of an amount is not seriously harming.  The radiation was probably just concentrated on your chest and isn't enough to cause damage in just a few doses.

  19. Talk to a radiologist expert--if you're uncomfortable you can call another hospital and ask their opinion. Over exposure to radiation is very serious and just because these people work in these fileds it doesn't necessarily mean they always know exactly what they're doing. It sound to me like the radiologist you had might have been new. I've never been in radiology where the areas that did not need it was not protected. GOOD LUCK!

  20. The radiation they use for a chest x-ray is not extremely high.  As long as you are not exposed repeatedly, you should be ok.

  21. check it out and do some research. she could probably get sued for it if you asked her to sheild you. call an attorney and even ask someone who works at the hospital about it.

  22. The amount of X ray radiation dose is so small that you will not have a problem. it's only if you are constantly being submitted to these radiation doses, over a period of time. However, they could have placed a protective blanket over the area, and should have taken your concern seriously.

    Blessing
