The American Society of Radiologic Technologists just did a large salary survey, in 2007. The salary varies, depending on your experience, specialties and geographical area. To view, the survey, and see the average salary in your state, you can go to this link:

For example, a RT (the proper term for an x-ray tech), in AL, had a mean average yearly income of $43,196.

with MRI:  $51,174

with CT scanning:  $45,854

with mammography:  $46,413

with ultrasound:  $58,998

You can divide these numbers by 2080 (which is 40 hours per week times 52 weeks) for an average hourly pay rate.

X ray technicians make from 35-45,000 a year when you first start.  They also get benefits.

As you add to image diagnostic capability your income will multiply.. For example someone that is qualified to preform xrays, CT scans, and MRI's may make over 80,000 a year.
