  1. I remember this by a little memory device.

    X is a cross and goes 'a-cross'  , horizontal

Y has the vertical step, (if you write it like that) so is the vertical axis.

maybe you can think Y axis - reach for the SKY!!

always try look for mental devices to help remembering, thats how I get through Maths! The one you make yourself are the best

  2. just remember one:

example: remember that x is the horizontal line or remember that y is the vertical line.

Once you memorize one, the other one will automatically be the other one.

  3. Maybe you can remember this way:

It's it's on Y, reach for the sky.

If it's on x, go across.

  4. X rhymes with s*x, which you have on the ground

    or Y is high

  5. X is horizontal, just remember that.

wait till you have a z axis and polar coordinates. then your really going to have fun!

  6. The letter Y has a straight part on it, pointing straight down.

The y-axis is the one that goes up and down (vertical).

  7. Going deeper - X-axis holds the independent variable (data you input into an equation.  Y-axis holds the dependent variable (data you get from the equation when you put in the independent variable).

For example, if I wanted to find out how far I can throw a ball depending on how heavy it is, the mass would be the independent variable on the x-axis and the distance I threw the ball would be the indepedent, or output variable.  It would probably go something like: As the mass of the ball is increased, the distance the ball is thrown is decreased, and would be represented by a downward slope on your graph, moving left to right.
