Ok well im trying to connect to xbox live with a wired connection. I have a Linksys router and a arris cable modem. When i try to connect it says the ip failed, when i go to more info it tells me this

"Your console is unable to negotiate a lease with your DHCP server. Make sure that addresses are avalible in your server"

Now it says i have a vailed IP address, so the thing is im trying to figure out How to Make sure that addresses are avalible in my server.

The reason it says it cannot make a lease with my DHCP server Is because i do not have enough addresses so if somone could tell me how to then i would have no problem getting on live.

by the way it is a wired connection not wireless

  1. Heres the solution!!!

Ok, first go to the Dashboard (on the 360)

    1. Scroll to the System area (On dashboard).

    2. Select Network Settings.

    3. Select Edit Settings.

    4. Select IP Settings.

    5. Select Manual.

    6. Enter the IP address

To find your IP address, go to this website,

    http://www.dslreports.com/whois

    and it'll say

"The IP that just fetched this page is. . ."

And it'll have numbers below, and those numbers are what you type into the Manual on the Xbox dashboard (steps above).

  2. lol i had  the same problem..

alright so go to system then chose network settings edit settings then additional settings make sure the ppoe settings aren't set.If they are set then click on the ppoe settings and chose clear settings then chose done. then make sure they basic settings are automatic.

test it out see if it works if it doesn't work then use this

    http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/connec...

    Hope that helps

  3. remote into your linksys router and near the bottom of the bottom of the general tab there should be a number that indicates how many dhcp clients that the linksys will dish out ip addresses to, if you have that set to 5 or a low figure then you need to increase that and then apply that and try again.

  4. I believe this could also be caused by a bad cable. You might try try swapping the cable with one that you know is working. (That is, one that's attached to a computer that's able to access the Internet.)

Alternatively, you could test the connection by giving the Xbox 360 a static IP address. From a command prompt window on a PC, issue the command:

       ipconfig /all

and note the IP address. It's probably something that starts with 192.168.1.something or maybe 192.168.0.something. The gateway's (i.e., router's LAN IP address) will also be listed. Generally that will be 192.168.1.1 (or 192.168.0.1).

If you know how to look at the router's configuration, you can also find out this IP address under the basic setup of the LAN. While there, check the DHCP IP address range to see what IP addresses the router is dynamically administering.the IP addresses for. Back on the Xbox, choose an address outside of that range, but on the with the same first the "octet" numbers. If the IP address range served by the router's DHCP server is 192.168.1.2 through 192.168.1.51, a safe static IP address to test with would be something like 192.168.1.75.

If you can't get into the router's configuration to determine the DHCP settings, just "guess" that a safe IP address is +/- 75 from the computers IP address, but the last number must be in the range from 2 (as 1 is reserved by the router for itself) and 254. For example, if the computer's IP address is 192.168.1.4, choose the fixed IP test address as 192.168.1.79.

Set your Xbox to the static IP you chose (e.g., 192.168.1.75), leave the network mask to 255.255.255.0, set the gateway to the same gateway your PCs are using (e.g., 192.168.1.1) Now, try your Xbox. If it is still not able to connect, check that cable again.

  5. Log into the router as described in the manual, and then go to the LAN section. It will show the dhcp and list the start and end address. If this is less than your total number of machines set the upper number 4 or 5 higher than the existing one.

  6. this happened to me all you have to do is reset your router by pressing in that little hole in the back with a pen
