XI Italian International 2011: Luka Zdenjak overpowers Tomas Kopriva in qualifying round contest
Croatia’s Luka Zdenjak opened his campaign in the event in an impressive fashion as he has overpowered Czech Republic’s Tomas Kopriva in the qualifying round of the XI Italian International 2011, on Tuesday, December 13, at Rome, Italy.
The Croatian, who has been struggling hard to find a good run, opened his campaign in the qualifying round by playing good badminton. He worked really hard and played attacking game to beat the stubborn Kopriva in a three set match, which took 42 minutes
of thrilling game from both shuttlers.
The first set was absolutely thrilling when both shuttlers played with precision and remained close until Zdenjak took over in the end and won the set with a decent difference. In the following game, Kopriva changed his tactics and remained dominant throughout
the game to take it with a good margin. In the final set, the Croatian played stunning game and ended it with a one-sided score on the board.
The starting points of the first game were mouth-watering when both players pushed each other in all corners of the court and employed wonderful attacking strokes. Until the break in the first game, Zdenjak was slightly ahead of his rival. He played well
after the break and bagged the opening set with a decent score of 21-18.
In the following set of the match, Kopriva stunned his Croatian opponent by playing attacking and positive badminton. He was everywhere in the court by playing to his best speed and spared no room for his opponent to dominate the rallies.
Zdenjak tried his best but failed to break the flow of his challenger and eventually lost the game with a margin of 16-21.
However, in the deciding set, Zdenjak started the game in a scintillating fashion as he worked really well at the net and pushed his opponent on the back foot.
His powerful smashes followed by strong pushes and spinning net play earned him easy win in the final set with a superb margin of 21-12. This three-set qualifying round contest ended in 42 minutes with a 21-18, 16-21 and 21-12 score on the board.
