XI Italian International: Fabian Hammes ousts Nathan Vervaeke in Men’s Singles qualifying round
Germany’s talented shuttler, Fabian Hammes advances into next stage after winning his first encounter against Belgium’s Nathan Vervaeke in the qualifying round of the 2011 XI Italian International, in Rome, on Tuesday, December 13.
The un-seeded Hammes was impressive on court as he showed no sign of slowing down his speed and won the battle in straight games against Vervaeke. The Belgian tried to tackle the aggression of his opponent but failed as the German was flawless in his play.
Hammes consumed just 24 minutes in the court to oust Vervaeke without facing any considerable trouble.
Hammes opened the first game with a wonderful aped and finished it in an interesting manner with a remarkable margin. In the following set of the match, the German remained focused and progressed with a wonderful speed to end the second set with a one-sided
score.
In the opening set, both men played fast badminton in the first few rallies and employed wonderful strokes to build an early lead. However, it was Hammes who played with precision and started to create gap. His perfect play at the net and also employed wonderful
attacking lobs to create gaps in his opponent’s court. Until the one-minute break, the German was moving far ahead of Belgian.
After the interval, Vervaeke tried to employ different tactics and worked well at the net area but failed to put pressure on his rival. Hammes accelerated his speed to push the bird from the tape of the net and remained successful in taking the opening game
with an impressive margin of 21-14.
In the second game of the match, Hammes took no time in building a remarkable lead in the opening half of the game. After the break, he continued his roller-coaster progress in the game by playing to his maximum potential. The Belgian failed to match the
standard of his opponent throughout the game and remained trailing behind.
Hammes remained fully focused in the game finished it with a one-sided score of 21-13. He took 24 minutes to end this qualifying round battle with an overall result of 21-14 and 21-13.
