Last night I was attacked by the XP Antivirus and I managed to get rid of the virus itself this morning. Unfortunately the background which I can't seem to get rid of on my desktop (it says Warning! Spyware detected on your computer!) but I've tried kelly's korner and basically everything else and I can't get rid of the background! Also every time I try to go to a website to download a new antivirus software for free, it directs me to a "go-google" website and I can't seem to get anywhere except for one site selling Cyber Defender (I dont even know if thats legit). What should i do??

  1. use manual removal instructions

  2. To restore ability to change your desktop settings and select a different wallpaper and screen saver do the following:

    Start, run

    type Gpedit.msc

Navigate to User configuration, Administrative Templates, Control Panel, Display

Right click on Remove Display in Control Panel

Click on Properties and select Disabled

Do the same steps to change the following attributes to disabled:

    Hide Desktop Tab

    Prevent changing wallpaper

    Hide Appearance and Themes tab

    Hide Settings tab

    Hide Screen Saver tab

You should now be able to use your computer normally and change the wallpaper to something other than the warning message Antivirus XP 2008 set it to.

  3. Simple go into safe mode with networking and download the anti-spyware of your choice., I would recommend getting superantispyware free edition.,download., update., and do an in depth scan in safe mode., it works wonders at detecting trojans., and other c**p., And its data base also covers the XP Anti-Virus., which is a rogue program.,

  4. I do not think Cyber Defender is legit. From what i heard about Cyber Defender is that it is a adware supported program and it is very hard to remove once installed. As recommend by other people the best program to get is Malwarebyte's AntiMalware 1.25. You can watch this YouTube video of Malwarebyte's AntiMalware cleaning up a computer  infected with XP Antivirus.

  5. XP Antivirus is NOT a virus but it is a rogue program.

    run:

  6. Go to this link for instructions. http://www.xp-vista.com/spyware-removal/... This should help you sort it out.

  7. XPAntivirus - (also known as XP Antivirus) is a rogue anti-spyware that creeps onto your system through browser security exploits, Trojans, and other illicit mechanisms. Once it is installed, XP Antivirus Protection will launch on Windows startup and badger the user into purchasing the full version of the program by showing misleading warning messages and scan results. XP Antivirus Protection may appear difficult to remove manually because of its feature to automatically re-install.

  8. you still have virus go to cnet.com and get antivirus my computer did same thing until i downloaded antivurs free version

  9. If you can't get rid of the background, you haven't gotten rid of the virus.

Go to Majorgeeks.com and download Malwarebytes anti-malware and run that - it removes WinAntivirus 2008 fairly effectively.
