I have a Dell Inspiron 1420 laptop and XP SP2 as my OS, when It tries to connect to a wireless network which is using WEP 128 bit encryption even before connecting to it, my OS hangs.

I had no problem before using Vista. Also some Inspiron 1520 that they are using the same wireless adapter as mine has the same problem on XP, but other brands are working without any problem.

what do you think about it ?

router configuration problem, Wireless adapter driver problem on XP,... ?

Thanks a lot for your answers

  1. Your best bet: see if the dell support site for your inspiron has updated wireless drivers. They often do.

You don't mention the brand of router, but in the past, some routers needed a firmware upgrade to connect wirelessly with a dell laptop.

So go to the netgear, linksys, d-link or whatever website to download the latest router firmware. After that try again.
