XP Vista HP WiFi Printing problems, please help!?

I have 2x XP SP2 and 1x HP Vista Notebooks on a WiFi Network through a Dlink Router/Access point. 1xHP laserjet 1400 and 1xHP Designjet 130 attached locally and shared to the Vista Notebook. All test prints from Vista is working fine and I can acces the all hard drives on the network.

Here’s the problem. When I print from the XP machines to he Designjet 130 everything’s working fine, but the Laserjet 1400 just spools on the Vista machine and never prints. However, when you switch the vista machine off, it prints whatever you’ve sent from the XP machine. I need to use the Vista machine as a print server.

How do I solve this. I have reinstalled the driver, downloaded the 64x driver, switched off all firewalls, made sure the printer is shared everywhere. What else can I do?

  1. seems like you have done everything for it to work."Laserjet 1400 just spools on the Vista machine and never prints. "

you reinstalled the driver for the printer, still problem exists.so in my view the issue is Laserjet 1400's hardware.

i have faced this kind of problems,if it hardware problems very difficult to play around it,you can solve this,2 choices

1# give it to hardware maintenance shop,

    2# buy new one

note:u have done everything to made vista machine a print server!!!!

  2. I always tell clients to NOT WASTE a computer as a print server!  Exactly why do you "need to use the Vista machine as a print server"?  Do you just like tying up expensive computers for easy non-relevant tasks (at least to that machine)?  Why not just get a print server interface for the 1400 and print direct from any machine on the network! That keeps every machine printing correctly and directly and removes all your issues.

Print shares are ok sometimes but when they don't work, well they don't work.  In most networks using "network printers" or direct print servers is much better solution.

After all network "architecture" is better when done correctly.

    (sorry couldn't resist :)

PS Tiger Direct has Linksys units for 29.99 (and that includes a four port switch!)

  3. wow two people here whom claim to be IT experts who can't figure this one out AMAZING

the reason your printer on the vista machine is not printing is  because in the software there is a setting that has to be unchecked called SPOOLING . once the spooling is emptied ( shutting down the pc for example ) the printer then prints , simply open the printer software and under properties find the spooling option and disable it
