I am thinking of buying a laptop and I am looking at either a Windows XP or Vista operating system, and no I do not want any Mac fans saying Leopard is better because it isn't and I am wondering should I get a laptop that runs XP or Vista because Vista is fairly new and when I used the XP operating system in 2003 it kept crashing and I am wondering whether the same thing will happen if I get Vista. I don't like having to upgrade and so I am wondering should I buy a trusty old XP laptop and carry a Vista Service Pack just in case or should I buy a speedy new vista laptop that I don't have to upgrade for 6 or 7 years but is unstable??

  1. Vista is the most unstable of all Windows OS's but it is good if you are a really big novice at computers.  The only thing is  that there is a default setting that makes it crash after coming out of power save mode.  I would suggest getting a Windows XP laptop now with service pack 3 (a.k.a. sp3) and then in 2010 or later get a laptop with Windows 7 (the "secret" project Microsoft is working on that is suppose to be more efficient than XP) and you should be fine.  If you want to continue getting Microsoft support, get Windows Vista and throw your laptop away when Windows 7 comes out.

By the way, Windows is WAYYYYYYYYYY better than leopard.
